Thanks for visiting my blog.  My name is Cheryl J. Lake.  I grew up on Vashon Island, just outside of Seattle in Washington state.  My undergraduate degree is from Washington State University.  I worked in the hotel and restaurant industry for many years before accepting a position in finance with the largest orthopedic group in Northern Nevada.   I have been lucky enough to build a career here.

My career experience in finance as well as managerial accounting has enabled me to gain expertise in multiple other areas such as real estate management, non-profit administration, audit, corporate taxes, contracts, benefit administration, budget management and payroll. I truly enjoy learning the ins and outs of a system and finding ways to make the system work more efficiently. I believe in organizing my life in more ways that you could imagine but am lucky enough to have some free spirited influences in my life to balance me out.

To continue to build my skills and stay relevant in the industry, I make the decision to go back to school.  I am currently a part time graduate student in the MBA program at the University of Nevada, Reno. Exercising critical thinking, complex problem solving and productive collaboration are skills we build on in each course. Though challenging, the program is invigorating and relevant in today’s market. I plan to celebrate my graduation in December of 2015.

I believe that education builds confidence, empowers and brings choices. By educating women, we are able to reach multiple generations with the message of strength and independence though knowledge.  Building a solid support system for a women will carry her through as she faces difficulties in her life.  Empowering women encourages her to bring positive change to herself and others.

On my blog, I explore and share ideas to motivate women to make positive changes within themselves, their family and their community.  I hope to encourage a few to look beyond their perceived boundaries to the endless possibilities that our world can offer.  Whether your goal is to pursue further education, be a more supportive woman or climb the corporate ladder, I hope you find my content helpful.
